About the Apps4Africa Challenge
Apps4Africa is an annual competition that encourages African software developers to solve difficult problems afflicting local society using technology. The competition is orchestrated to reward Africans solving African problems by rewarding challenge winners with cash prizes to scale their businesses, start organizations, or by introducing them to our network of mentors and advisors.
The 2011 Apps4Africa Climate Challenge built upon the success of the 2010 Apps4Africa Civic Challenge in which civil society challenged program developers to find innovative technological solutions to everyday problems on issues ranging from transparency and governance to health and education. Winners received prizes, including cash awards, gadgets and travel.
