Map Kibera is already mapping assets of the slum community. People who live there should be able to query the MK database thru SMS and find out where to go for medical help and other needed services. Local service providers could then also register the phone #s that query so they can send out relevant info.

USSD is available on all cellphones yet one can't find as many apps as one can think should be. USSD gateways are hard(very) to acquire. The solution suggested is a shared, street-affordable gateway where -
-developer with idea for an app downloads the _easilyUssd SDK.
-App is designed and developed on the devkit
-App is submitted to _easilyUssd where its vetted for practicality
-If it passes it gets hosted and the app is assigned a '*000*1234#'-type address.
-The app's address can then be distributed via sms, wap, etc.

a portal that aggregates crowd sourced information by constituency from existing platforms such as USHAHIDI, MAP KIBERA, SODNET BUDGET TOOL, GOVERNMENT websites.

Imagine if those without smartphones could have all of the Apps4Africa apps in the palm of their hands plus all of the other apps that organizations and governments are developing! Masawa makes this possible. Masawa is a foldering system on java-enabled phones (2.5B in the world) that allows users all over the world to have a whole suite of applications at their disposal, like an app store for the poor. So instead of just having one health app in Malawi or one agriculture app in Niger, user can have them both plus much more.

We would like to track the numbers of women, numbers of groups, amounts saved by each group, loans issued on a weekly basis. Since this is not microfinance, the women keep the money in their homes as they are supposed to be using it to grow business, hence needing to borrow regularly. We have the same programme in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi. A mobile software would help where each group sends information to a central database perhaps running on opensource. This database can be accessed to anlayse the data. Anyone who can support this programme?

Students in Higher Learning institutions in Tanzania are in need of a services which will give them some information for them to make decision within reasonable timing and without hassle. E.g getting Information (using Mobile phones )about Loan status, Accommodation Status, Tuition Fee status, Exams result etc while still on leave/vacation in their villages

MobilE is web application system that helps in finding people that are the victims of disasters such as the one that happened in Haiti. The users send multimedia information at no cost and this information is sent to the system, this one sends it to people related to the people in need (family and organisation in the nearest area who can help).It locates the people in need of help and rank them by order of urgency. It has a mobile web version that accurately and rapidly provides all information needed to help the unfortunate people.

The basic idea is to have a system that has a mobile and web interface for posting requirement of medicine and blood. The information posted will have technical information about the requirement, the location on map, the requirement time frame.

The information will be represented on the map for the public to view.
Authorized health workers and community leaders should be able to post to the system using sms in a given format.
Posting can also be done through smartphones where the location information will be more accurate and automatically added.
