A way to deliver (crowdsource) small tasks for people to do on their mobile p:ones and/or web and they earn money either as p:one credit or by mobile money transfer/deposit(MKesho). The aim would be to provide people a way to earn some kind of income.

Mass texting system that provides rural village with emergency info. Satellite phones will be provided and distributed by a prestigious mobile phone service such as AT&T or Verizon. This will provide a decent amount of capital and investment for such an extensive project, while allowing for a charitable donation for that company. Regions will be “hot spot” designated, and will be managed and operated individually to provide the specific nature of the information. Regional managers will also train individuals on the system.
- Blood and Medicine requirement on Map with mobile and web interface. 5 weeks 1 hour ago
The system will have a mobile and web interface for posting requirement of medicine and blood. The information posted will have technical information about the requirement, the location on map, the requirement time frame.
The information will be represented on the map for the public to view.
Authorized health workers and community leaders should be able to post to the system using sms in a given format.
Posting can also be done through smartphones where the location information will be more accurate and automatically added.- Masawa - kicking poverty in the apps! 6 weeks 4 days ago
Imagine if those without smartphones could have all of the Apps4Africa apps in the palm of their hands plus all of the other apps that organizations and governments are developing! Masawa makes this possible. Masawa is a foldering system on java-enabled phones (2.5B in the world) that allows users all over the world to have a whole suite of applications at their disposal, like an app store for the poor. So instead of just having one health app in Malawi or one agriculture app in Niger, user can have them both plus much more.
- VIEWING Ushahidi maps on mobile phone 6 weeks 5 days ago
From a participant at an event I attended recently:
- Make an app that lets phones view and navigate Ushahidi maps easily. The phones should support feature phones, not just smartphones (and something beyond location-based text alerts). Could be a java app, or a website that is more easily browsed from a feature phone.- microfinance loan tracking tool 8 weeks 8 hours ago
We would like to track the numbers of women, numbers of groups, amounts saved by each group, loans issued on a weekly basis. Since this is not microfinance, the women keep the money in their homes as they are supposed to be using it to grow business, hence needing to borrow regularly. We have the same programme in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi. A mobile software would help where each group sends information to a central database perhaps running on opensource. This database can be accessed to anlayse the data. Anyone who can support this programme?
- Help People in Kibera Find the Resources in Their Backyard through SMS 9 weeks 1 day ago
Map Kibera is already mapping assets of the slum community. People who live there should be able to query the MK database thru SMS and find out where to go for medical help and other needed services. Local service providers could then also register the phone #s that query so they can send out relevant info.
- Visualizing Community Realms of Influence 7 weeks 2 days ago
I would (as would many in the non-profit sector) love a way to map
relationships between orgs/staff/initiatives that could be easily
accessible via mobile and linked to GIS and related databases.
It would be a hybrid of social mapping: (http://blendingthemix.com/
2009/07/22/possibly-the-best-facebook-friend-mapping-tool-to-date/)
but the "realms" of influence could be sorted/arranged based on area
of focus--i.e. health, education, etc.; or neighborhood--South Ward,
North Ward; City...whatever field is most relevant to the individual- Virtual Assembly Point 7 weeks 2 hours ago
Virtual Assembly Point is a Crisis Management System that will help the emergency responses departments to have ground information before they get to the actual crisis location.with the information that the Virtual Assembly Point will provide, the rescue crew will be able to get manifestos, sort people according to needs, set different priorities and plan for and manage their resources properly.
It is mobile base because most of the functions are done on the mobile phone and the web section is for the rescue team.
